I went to the skype website today and found some info on making conference calls with skype: http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/conferencecall/
Looks fairly simple, and is free, if we all get skype accounts. We can connect to cell phones, too, for a fee. I'll sign up today; if we all do, we can add each other to contact lists and be on our way.
We can also do a group chat (text), which could be bookmarked for later reference.
During the grade level meeting 2-25-08, Jane, Stacey, and I signed up for Skype accounts and did some practice calls. We successfully participated in a conference call, and made a computer to telephone call. We found that if we were on one call and answered another, the first call was automatically put on hold (much like call waiting). We also found that we cannot chat and talk at the same time (something we thought might be useful to document ideas as we talked, then bookmarked chat. We'll have to find another way, perhaps simply electing one participant as the recorder, who will open MS Word and chat along, or opening the blog and typing a post. We are experimenting with other settings as well.
